DUNBAR, WV (WOWK) – Most people go way beyond decorating holidays like Christmas and Halloween, but a Dunbar couple take their love for our country to a whole new level.
Homeowners Ray Sanders and Rob Chandler decorated their home in red, white and blue to honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
“It’s overwhelming for me to know that people are sacrificing their lives for the freedom we have today,” said Ray.
These decorations are designed to make those in your neighborhood smile as well. It took Rob and Ray more than six hours to put this year’s decorations up in time for Memorial Day.
“Yes, it’s a lot of work and it takes a lot of time, but I think in the end the reward will be paid very well,” said Rob.
They are also a symbol of appreciation for the veterans in their community. Ray is one of them.
“I served in the Air Force for four years and was proud to serve my country,” remarked Ray.
And this exaggerated display shows that pride. Ray and Rob decorate not only for Memorial Day, but also for Valentine’s Day, Easter, Christmas and many other holidays!
The City of Dunbar awarded Rob and Ray the Home Decorating Contest Winner Ward 1 for 2020.
