Shangri-La Shougang Park, Beijing, will officially open ahead of the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics – Hospitality Net

Beijing’s Shangri-La Shougang Park, a new hotel where warm hospitality meets centuries-old industrial heritage, will officially open today, just in time for the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics. The design of the hotel combines the unique industrial landscape and cultural elements of Shougang with the design aesthetics and sustainability concepts of Shangri-La. The hotel not only brings vitality and timeless hospitality to Shougang Park, the “new symbol of the revitalization of the capital”, but also offers its visitors a dedicated service as one of the official hotels for the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing

An immersive cultural experience

The new hotel is located in the heart of Shougang Park and offers a breathtaking view of Shijingshan Hill and Qunming Lake. Its neighbors include the Snowboard Big Air Venue for the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics and Chang’an Mills. The hotel is transforming an old power plant into a new urban living space, introducing a range of environmentally friendly features and technological advances. It will meet the needs of business and leisure travelers while creating a new landmark for Beijing’s urban revitalization and promoting the cultural, industrial and ecological rejuvenation of Shougang Park.

The Milanese design office Lissoni Casal Ribeiro SpA was responsible for the design concept of the hotel under the direction of the renowned Italian designer Piero Lissoni. Building on the original architectural foundation of the former Shougang power station, the designers have paid tribute to its industrial heritage by recognizing the building’s historical value and complementing it with the contemporary style and Asian sensibility of Shangri-La.

The hotel complex consists of three buildings. The first carefully maintains the original
Framework of the power plant with the addition of a large-scale glass facade that encompasses the
Building and leaves its structure intact while allowing natural light to penetrate the space.

The main entrance and lobby of the hotel are filled with steel elements that evoke the past and wood patterns that create a feeling of warmth. A red steel spiral staircase connects the various public rooms and gives the overall aesthetic a touch of additional brilliance.

As an extension of the main building, the second building houses the hotel’s banquet and event rooms, the fitness center and the children’s playground. The third and last building of the hotel complex houses 283 guest rooms and suites with a size of 42 to 84 square meters. The rooms are decorated in an Asian style with soft tones and minimalist lines and offer breathtaking views of Shijingshan Hill, Yongding River and Qunming Lake through floor-to-ceiling windows.

A harmonious and natural green area

Every element of the design in the Shangri-La Shougang Park in Beijing gives a feeling of being immersed in nature. Evergreen plants transform the hotel lobby into an indoor garden, while the lobby lounge offers guests a calm, garden-like atmosphere.

Throughout the hotel, guests are pampered with art exhibitions inspired by Shougang Park and the surrounding nature. In the lobby atrium, a wire mesh installation entitled “Journey of Hope” by the Japanese studio Sawada Design is inspired by the birds that migrate to the Yongding River each season. The artist created white “flying birds” from abstract geometric shapes, which gradually expand from the ground floor to the roof. The work of art, created exclusively for the Shangri-La Shougang Park in Beijing, represents the transformative spirit of the Shougang Park and the harmonious coexistence of the hotel with its surroundings.

In line with Shangri-La’s commitment to sustainable development, the hotel also features many elements designed to reduce its impact on the environment. All guest rooms are equipped with air purification systems and drinking water taps to reduce the need for single-use plastic and help protect the environment. Bringing the Destination to Life Shangri-La Shougang Park, Beijing offers an upscale experience for every guest with different lifestyles. The hotel has two restaurants and a lobby lounge. Shang Market is an all-day dining restaurant that offers a generous buffet of local and international specialties such as Beijing Roast Duck, Unagi and Braised Meat. Power Station, the hotel’s lobby lounge, offers a botanical garden in the middle of the industrial buildings and creates an urban paradise for guests to relax with a cup of tea or coffee alongside homemade pastries or cocktails. Shang Brew on Lake Xiuchi is already a popular spot for those looking to hang out with friends and spend quality time over craft beers and good food.

As part of the family experience brand “Fam.ilyTM” by Shangri-La, the Shangri-La Shougang Park, Beijing, also offers an in-house children’s playground, BudsTM by Shangri-La, and family suites. BudsTM is a carefully curated space that offers children and their parents a full, interactive experience. The seven family suites with themes such as Tree Top, Ski and Space are equipped with creative children’s beds and amenities that arouse the spirit of adventure and the imagination.

The hotel also has 1,400 square meters of indoor event space, including a large ballroom that can accommodate up to 700 guests and five multifunctional rooms for a variety of banquet and event needs.

The hotel’s restaurants, banquet facilities and some of the guest rooms are now open, with the remaining guest rooms, fitness center, family suites and BudsTM to follow in phases through 2022. For more information, call (86 10) 829 8888 or email shou[email protected]
